Terms of Service
Last updated 1 November 2026 · Effective from this date
These terms are the agreement between you and LabariX when you use the LabariX app or website. By creating an account, buying anything or using LabariX, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use LabariX.
1. What LabariX is
LabariX is a platform for African stories. Readers read and listen to stories, audiobooks and podcasts. Writers publish their work and earn from it. Voice artists narrate chapters and host podcasts. Some stories belong to shared worlds ("universes"). We also offer AI tools, design and printing services, and printed books.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission, and they are responsible for your use and purchases.
- Give accurate details and keep them up to date. Keep your password safe: you are responsible for what happens on your account.
- One account can have more than one profile (for example reader, writer or voice artist). The same terms apply to every profile.
- Accounts are personal. Do not sell, share or transfer your account.
3. Reading and listening
- Many chapters are free. Premium chapters, episodes and audiobooks can be opened with a subscription, a rental, a purchase, or one of your free weekly episodes.
- Free weekly episodes: each week (Monday to Sunday, Nigeria time) you can unlock a set number of premium episodes, each from a different story. Unused episodes do not carry over.
- Rentals give you every premium chapter of one story for the number of days shown before you pay. When the rental ends, access ends.
- Purchases (single chapters and e-books) stay in your library for as long as the work is on LabariX and your account is open.
- Everything you open is for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, record, download outside the app, share, resell or publish stories, audio or artwork.
- Some stories are only available for a limited time, and writers may take their work down. If you paid for something that is removed before you could use it, see our Refund Policy.
4. Prices and payments
- Prices are shown in naira (₦) before you pay and include any charges we must collect.
- Payments are processed by Paystack. Your card or bank details go to Paystack, not to us. Paystack's own terms also apply to the payment.
- We may also send you a secure payment link (for example for a printing quote). Only pay through links that open on labarix.com.
- We may change prices. A new price never applies to something you have already paid for, and we will tell you before a change affects your subscription.
- Refunds are covered in our Refund Policy, which is part of these terms.
5. Subscriptions
- A subscription gives you access to premium content for each period you pay for (for example monthly), as described on the plan.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the price shown, until you cancel. Paystack charges the card or account you used.
- You can cancel at any time in the app. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
- If a renewal payment fails, we may try again and your access may pause until payment succeeds.
6. AI coins and AI tools
- Some features (such as AI writing help, cast detection, voice design and AI narration of chapters) are paid for with AI coins.
- Monthly coins: an active subscription includes a monthly allowance of AI coins (shown on the plan, currently 100). Monthly coins are used first, expire at the end of that month and do not roll over.
- Top-up coins: you can buy coin packs. Bought coins do not expire while your account is open.
- The coin price of each action is shown before you confirm it. Coins are held when a job starts and only spent when it finishes; if a job fails, held coins go back to you.
- Coins have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, sold or transferred, and are not refundable except as our Refund Policy says.
- AI output can be wrong, repetitive or similar to other content. You are responsible for checking and editing what you publish.
7. Writing on LabariX
- You keep the copyright in what you write. You give LabariX a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, distribute, translate for display, promote and make available your work on LabariX and in LabariX marketing. With your agreement, the licence also covers narration (human or AI) and printing.
- The licence lasts while your work is on LabariX, and afterwards only for readers who already bought or rented it and for marketing already published.
- You confirm that you own your work or have permission to publish it, that it is not copied, and that it does not break the law or anyone's rights.
- Stories are reviewed before they go live. We may decline a story, ask for changes, change its maturity rating, or remove it if it breaks these terms.
- If you use AI to help write, you are still the author responsible for the work, and you must not present someone else's work as yours.
8. Earnings and payouts
- Writers earn the share shown in the app of rentals, chapter and e-book sales, printed-book sales (after the printing cost) and tips. The share is currently 80% (for printed books, after the printing cost); the app always shows the current share for each type of sale.
- Writers also share in subscription income each month, based on how much subscribers read their premium chapters.
- Where a voice artist narrates a work, the narration share agreed in the app is paid to the voice artist out of the earnings on that narrated work.
- Earnings are paid to the bank account you add, once they reach the minimum payout and after any holding period shown in the app. You must give correct bank details in your own name.
- We may hold or reverse earnings from payments that are refunded, charged back or found to be fraudulent, and earnings from content that breaks these terms.
- You are responsible for any taxes on your earnings.
9. Voice artists, narration and voice cloning
- Voice artists can narrate chapters with their own recordings or with a voice created from their voice. Narrations are reviewed before they go live.
- You may only clone your own voice, or a voice you have the speaker's clear written permission to use. We record that consent and may ask for proof. Cloning anyone else's voice is not allowed.
- You own your recordings and your voice. You give LabariX a licence to use the narrations you publish on LabariX in the same way as section 7. A voice made from your voice is only used for your work and the projects you agree to.
- You can ask us to delete a voice made from your recordings. Narrations already published with it may stay available to readers who paid for them, unless you ask us to take them down.
10. Podcasts and universes
- Podcast hosts must have permission from every guest to record and publish them. Guests can be linked to their LabariX account.
- Universes are shared worlds run by an administrator and moderators. Stories you add to a universe follow its world bible and canon rules. Characters, places and events you add to a universe's world bible may be used by other writers in that universe; the stories themselves stay yours.
11. Printed books, design and printing services
- Printed copies may be sold as pre-orders during the window shown on the book's page and delivered after printing. Delivery dates are estimates. Give a correct name, phone number and address.
- Design and printing services for writers are quoted before you pay. Work starts once the quote is paid. You approve the final files before printing.
- If we cannot print or deliver your order, we refund you in full (see the Refund Policy).
12. Community rules
Do not post, upload, narrate or do anything on LabariX that:
- is illegal, or promotes violence, terrorism, hate, or harassment of a person or group;
- sexually exploits or endangers children in any way, or shows sexual content involving anyone under 18;
- is sexual content that is not marked with the correct maturity rating, or shares intimate images of anyone without consent;
- encourages self-harm or suicide;
- copies someone else's work, voice or likeness without permission;
- shares someone's private information, or impersonates a person or organisation;
- is spam, a scam, misleading, or manipulates reads, ratings, reviews or earnings;
- tries to break, overload, scrape, reverse engineer or get around the security, paywalls or limits of LabariX.
Please report anything that breaks these rules using the report button. We review reports and may hide or remove content, issue a warning, limit features, or suspend or close accounts.
13. Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using LabariX and delete your account at any time in the app, or on our delete account page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or is used for fraud. Where it is fair and safe, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to respond. If we close your account without a good reason, we will refund unused subscription time.
14. LabariX itself
The LabariX name, logo, app, website and design belong to us. You may not use them without our written permission, except to link to LabariX or share stories using the share features.
15. Our responsibility to you
We work hard to keep LabariX available, safe and correct, but it is provided "as is" and we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or free of errors. Stories, narrations and comments are created by users, not by us, and do not represent our views.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by events outside our control. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 or any other law that cannot be excluded.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as LabariX grows. We will post the new version here with a new date and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using LabariX after that, the new terms apply.
17. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If you have a problem, contact us first and we will try to solve it within 30 days. If we cannot, the courts of Nigeria have jurisdiction, without affecting your right to go to a consumer protection authority.
